  34.                  Installation Instructions

  37. * Installation
  38.  
  39.    Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 software is being distributed for
  40.    Windows(R) 3.x, Windows95(R), and Macintosh(R) operating systems.
  41.    This CD contains all three sets of software;  be sure to install 
  42.    the correct version for your operating system.
  43.    
  44.    If you are running Windows(R) 3.x or Windows for Workgroups(R),
  45.    you MUST use the Windows(R) 3.x program even if you have Win32s
  46.    installed.
  47.  
  48.    Under Windows95(R), modem support is provided by the operating 
  49.    system. If the software cannot find your modem, or incorrectly 
  50.    identifies your modem, you may have a hardware conflict or failure.
  51.    You should contact your system or modem manufacturer for help in 
  52.    determining the problem.
  53.  
  54.    Under Windows(R) 3.x, if the software cannot find your modem, 
  55.    or incorrectly identifies your modem, you may be able to manually
  56.    specify your modem.  To do so, follow these steps:
  57.    
  58.           Modem is incorrectly identified:
  59.             1.  During installation, at the Modem Setup Screen
  60.                 (the incorrect modem is displayed), click the 
  61.                 CHANGE... button.
  62.             2.  Under MANUFACTURER (the left column), select
  63.                 your modem manufacturer.
  64.             3.  Under MODEL (the right column), select
  65.                 your modem model.
  66.             4.  Click OK, and then click NEXT to continue the 
  67.                 installation / registration process.
  68.  
  69.           Modem is not found:
  70.             1.  You will be prompted that a modem was not found.
  71.                 Click NEXT.
  72.             2.  Select your modem as described above under
  73.                 "Modem is incorrectly identified".
  74.             3.  Select the appropriate COM port.  If you do not
  75.                 know what COM port your modem is on, contact
  76.                 your system or modem manufacturer for help
  77.                 in making that determination.
  78.             4.  Click FINISH and then click NEXT to continue 
  79.                 the installation / registration process.
  80.  
  81.    If your exact modem is not listed, contact your modem or system
  82.    manufacturer for details on a compatible selection (e.g., many
  83.    modems will work if identified as "Hayes Compatible").  If your 
  84.    modem does not work after following these steps, you may have 
  85.    a hardware conflict or failure.  Contact your modem 
  86.    manufacturer for help in determining the problem.
  87.  
  88. * Multiple Area Codes in Local Dialing Area:  If you live in an area 
  89. where a local call can span multiple area codes (common in cities on 
  90. state borders), you may want to delete the 1 and the area code in your
  91. dialer to prevent dialing-in-error messages.  
  92.      Windows(R) 3.x:  After registration is complete, launch 
  93.                     the Sprint Internet Passport Dialer by double-
  94.                     clicking the Sprint Internet Passport Dialer icon
  95.                     in the Sprint Internet Passport program group.
  96.                     In the Dialer, click on PROPERTIES.  In the 
  97.                     Provider Phone Number field, clear the Area Code.
  98.                     Click OK, and you will be ready to dial.
  99.  
  100.      Windows95(R):  After registration is complete, click the START 
  101.                     button, highlight PROGRAMS, highlight ACCESSORIES, 
  102.                     click on DIAL-UP NETWORKING, second-mouse (right-
  103.                     mouse) click on the Sprint Internet icon, and 
  104.                     click on PROPERTIES.  To disable long distance 
  105.                     dialing, clear the Area Code field.  Click the 
  106.                     OK button to exit the Properties dialogue for Sprint
  107.                     Internet.  Click the X in the upper right corner 
  108.                     of the Dial-Up Networking window to close Dial-Up 
  109.                     Networking.  
  110.  
  111. * Local versus Long Distance Dialing:  Be aware that in some areas, it 
  112.   is not necessary to dial 1 or zero to dial "long distance", nor to
  113.   incur long distance dialing charges - even within the same area code.
  114.   This is common in areas where "dialing zones" have been defined.
  115.   If you don't know if long distance charges apply when dialing your
  116.   local Sprint access number, contact your local telephone company.
  117.  
  118. * The Netscape Audio Plug-in will only work if you have a sound
  119.   card installed and configured properly.  It will not work
  120.   with the PC speaker driver. Please check your sound card manual
  121.   to configure the sound card.
  122.  
  123. * AVI Plugins on the Windows(R) 3.x version of the software
  124.   require Video for  Windows(R).  You can download Video for Windows(R)

  138. Win32s (or above) in order to install the Sprint Internet Passport 
  139. software.  As stated earlier in this document, even if you have Win32s
  140. installed, you must use the Windows(R) 3.x version of the software.

  170. This part describes what you will need and how to use the
  171. Windows(R) version of Apple's QuickTime plug-ins for Sprint Internet
  172. Passport 3.01.
  173.  
  174. WHAT THE QUICKTIME PLUG-IN DOES:
  175.  
  176. Apple's QuickTime plug-in for Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 or
  177. later lets you experience QuickTime content directly in the
  178. Navigator browser window. You no longer need a "helper
  179. application" like MoviePlayer to view QuickTime content with
  180. Navigator 3.01. You can also view QuickTime VR Panoramas and
  181. Objects inline, after downloading the QuickTime VR component
  182. from Apple.
  183.  
  184. The QuickTime plug-in works with existing QuickTime movies,
  185. and with movies prepared to take advantage of the plug-in's
  186. "fast start" feature. The "fast start" feature will present
  187. the first frame of the movie almost immediately and can
  188. begin playing even before the movie has been completely
  189. downloaded. The "fast start" feature saves you time waiting
  190. for the entire movie to download, but otherwise plays just
  191. like a regular QuickTime movie.
  192.  
  193. Sprint Internet Passport software will use the QuickTime 
  194. plug-in automatically to play any QuickTime movie while
  195. browsing the Internet.  The plug-in can play many kinds of
  196. QuickTime movies (.mov files) including movies with text,
  197. MIDI, and other kinds of data.  If you have downloaded and
  198. installed the QuickTime VR component, it will also let you
  199. interact with QuickTime VR Panoramas and Objects.

  201. WHAT YOU NEED:

  203. * A PC running Windows(R) 3.1 or Windows95(R)
  204.  
  205. * Latest version(s) of QuickTime : 
  206.    - QuickTime 2.1.2 for Windows(R)

  208. The complete QuickTime file set is NOT included on this CD.
  209. To use the QuickTime plug-in, you must download the most 
  210. recent version of QuickTime from:

  214. Follow the instructions on the page to install the software.

  216. * QuickTime VR
  217. If you would like to view QuickTime VR (Virtual Reality)
  218. Panoramas and Objects using the QuickTime plug-in, you will
  219. need the QTVR library for Windows(R) (QTVRW.QTC). The QTVR 
  220. software is *not* included with Sprint Internet Passport 3.01, 
  221. but you can download them from either the Apple QuickTime VR
  222. site (http://qtvr.quicktime.apple.com) or the QuickTime
  223. Software page (http://quicktime.apple.com).

  225. The QTVRW.QTC file must be in the WINDOWS(R) directory of 
  226. your primary drive (e.g., C:\WINDOWS).

  229. by Apple's QuickTime VR web page

  233. HOW TO USE THE PLUG-IN:

  235. Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 includes the QuickTime plug-in.
  236. As stated above, however, the complete QuickTime file set is 
  237. NOT included on this CD.  To use the QuickTime plug-in, you 
  238. must download the most recent version of QuickTime from:

  242. After installing the downloaded software, you must quit the 
  243. browser application (Netscape Navigator).  When you relaunch 
  244. the browser, the plug-in will be loaded and ready to use.

  248. on:
  249.    * Cool sample pages that illustrate how you can 
  250.      incorporate Quicktime into your web pages.

  259. FREQUENT QUESTIONS:
  260.  
  261. Q: I am running Windows95(R).  I installed the QuickTime VR
  262. software (QTVRW.QTC) in my WINDOWS(R) directory, and rebooted.
  263. But when I run Navigator with the QuickTime VR component,
  264. I can't view QuickTime VR Panoramas and Objects.
  265. A: You must use the correct software for your version of Windows(R).
  266. The Windows(R) 3.x version will not work with the Windows95(R) 
  267. version of Sprint Internet Passport software.
  268.  
  269. Q: I have Sprint Internet Passport 3.01, but the QuickTime
  270. plug-in doesn't seem to be working.
  271. A: Navigator 3.01 lets you pick plug-ins for different types
  272. of content, just like you pick helper apps. You may need to
  273. pick the QuickTime plug-in in the Navigator
  274. "Options/Helpers" dialog to make the QuickTime plug-in work.
  275.  
  276. Q: I am using a Web browser other than
  277. Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 or Netscape Navigator
  278. 3.01 and I am experiencing problems with the QuickTime
  279. plug-in.
  280. A: Currently, the QuickTime plug-in only supports
  281. Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 or Netscape Navigator 3.01
  282. or later.
  283.  
  284. Q: I am browsing a page with a QuickTime VR panorama and
  285. expect that I can use the shift and control under Windows(R)
  286.  to zoom in/zoom out of the movie.
  287. Likewise, with a regular QuickTime movie, I expect the arrow
  288. keys to step through the movie a frame at a time. But the
  289. movies don't seem to respond to keystrokes.
  290. A: You need to select the QuickTime VR panaroma or QuickTime
  291. movie first by clicking on it. On Windows(R), the arrow keys do
  292. not work.
  293.  
  294. Q. I'd like to save some of the movies to my hard drive. How
  295. do I do this?
  296. A. You can click on the movie and press Control-S on the PC 
  297. to bring up a "save" dialogue. However, this will not 
  298. work for QuickTime VR movies. To save QuickTime VR movies 
  299. go to the Navigator 3.01 menu, select Options/General 
  300. Preferences/Helpers, then select QuickTime from the list and 
  301. choose Edit. At this point, you'll be presented with a few 
  302. options, all will work for saving QuickTime VR files.
